Problem

Outdoor Festivals are the best way to match the outdoors with music, but how can we improve the experience of the audience? To develop solutions, let’s analyze its problems:

1 – They don’t happen very often;
2 – Their format and complexity make them hard to execute;
3 – New and smaller musicians don’t have the opportunity to show their work;
4 – Despite being outdoor, the audience usually doesn’t practice any outdoor activity.

Solution

An event platform that connects musicians and their audience in an outdoor environment. It helps people who love outdoor activities and music to have exclusive and intimate concerts in an outdoor scenario, and also allows the musicians to show their work and have fun. For each event, you can add an outdoor activity and meet new people before the event.

Woodsounds is a digital platform that connects people who love music and outdoor activities. It allows them to set up bonfire concerts at parks, beaches, forests, or anywhere else in nature.

Research

To analyze the acceptance of the idea, 33 people answered an online survey on Google Forms between October 10-11 of 2019. The Survey only had multiple-choice questions.

Target Audience

The target audience has between 21-35 years old. They are highly educated, love outdoor activities and music festivals. They like to hang out with their friends and have fun in outdoor environments, such as parks and beaches. They would love to attend a bonfire concert and listen to the acoustic version of the music that they listen to.

Extreme users are passionate about music. They go to concerts at least once a month and attend outdoor activities every week.

Mainstream users like outdoor activities and music but are not passionate about it. They like this kind of vibe but what they want is to get together and have a good time.

Competitors

StubHub is an online ticket exchange company owned by eBay, which provides services for buyers and sellers of tickets for sports, concerts, theater and other live entertainment events. It has grown from the largest secondary-market ticket marketplace in the United States into the world’s largest ticket marketplace.

Sofar transforms everyday spaces – like a living room or retail shop – and turns it into a captivating venue for secret, live shows, creating an immersive experience that brings guests and artists closer together. Each Sofar is small and typically features three diverse acts, with no headliner.

How It Works

The musicians create a new concert in an outdoor scenario. The audience chooses which event they want to attend and also have the option to add outdoor activities to the concerts.

Paper Prototype Tests

Victor Viana

Victor is the perfect person to initiate the tests. He is the consultant of the project and fits the target audience, especially for the 3 tasks that were developed.

Improvements

As we have the option to add activities, is safer to user “concerts” instead of events. When you add an activity, the interface is very similar and can lead to misunderstanding.

He suggested adding icons that could take the user to the music and videos of the band. I added a Youtube icon and a Spotify icon.

Pedro Clivati

Pedro is a serial entrepreneur with high know-how of digital marketing. He loves outdoor activities and music. His feedback is very valuable from the professional and user perspective.

Improvements

On the first screen, Pedro got confused with 2 search icons on the same page. He didn’t understand what “my events” icon was, so I changed it to a star and kept the home icon as the cards of the events.

Pedro gave great feedback to improve “Add Activity” and “Add Concert Page”: Highlight the steps that were already taken, so it guides the user to continue adding more information.

What Did I Learn?

This project helped me to realize how much we can improve people’s lives if we pay attention to their pain or their problems. Even things that seem to be already successful can be improved by the user perspective.

I also learned that improvements are constant, you will always repeat the process of researching, ideating, testing, and changing your product according to new technologies and user necessities.
